About the Journal
The Journal of Discipliana is an online-only, open-access, peer-reviewed journal for original scholarship that explores all aspects of thought, religious life, and practice within the historical and contemporary Stone-Campbell Movement. It is published by the Disciples of Christ Historical Society.
Editorial Leadership
The General Editor, Dr. Timothy S. Lee, works in consultation with an editorial board of scholars representing a diversity of gender, racial-ethnic, and national identity from the three primary streams of the Stone-Campbell Movement: the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), the Christian Churches/Churches of Christ, and the Churches of Christ (a cappella). Dr. Joel Brown, President of the Disciples of Christ Historical Society, is Publisher.
Publication Schedule
Volumes are numbered by year. Articles and book reviews are added to the current volume throughout the year as they are edited and approved, rather than released in scheduled issues.
History
The Journal of Discipliana continues the legacy of Discipliana, the periodical of the Disciples of Christ Historical Society. Discipliana began with the founding of the Historical Society in 1941 and was published in print until 2014. The current online journal began in 2021 and is hosted on this Open Journal Systems (OJS) site.
Past volumes of Discipliana have been digitized. They are available in the Historical Society's Digital Collections on JSTOR.
Submissions
The journal welcomes research articles, essays, and book reviews. Manuscripts should be prepared in Microsoft Word and may be submitted in either of two ways:
- Through this site. Authors must register for an account and then log in to begin a submission.
- By email to the General Editor, Dr. Timothy S. Lee, at journalofdiscipliana@discipleshistory.org.
Manuscripts should generally follow The Chicago Manual of Style, using the notes-bibliography system. Authors should also consult the Submission Preparation Checklist before submitting.
